Gourd loon mask-Carrying on the traditions of her culture, Abenaki

Indian and Old Forge resident, Andree D. Newton, will help students to

design a dynamic mask. Using the popular Adirondack bird as subject,

students will use a hard-shell gourd as the base, adding detail with

burning pens, dremels and acrylic paint. Feathers and beads will be

Wooden canoe or kayak paddle-After an explanation of traditional

shapes and tools by renowned Long Lake craftsman, Caleb Davis,

workshop participants will use hand tools and wooden blanks to create

their own paddles from cherry. Choice of single or double-blade.

Beaded jewelry-Learn the basics of designing, stringing, and

finishing beaded jewelry with Indian Lake crafter, Linda Doyle.

Each person will design a necklace and earrings from stone,

Decorative paddle painting-Andree F. Newton will instruct the class on how to paint a two-sided cultural design on a four-foot paddle. Acrylic paints and sealer will be provided along with cord for handle adornment. Cost-$40.00 Materials-$35.00
